CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) – As part of the 124th Labor Day celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) rolled out job opportunities for thousands of Calabarzon residents, including emergency employment for transport workers and farmers affected by the fuel crisis.

In an official Facebook post, DOLE Calabarzon has shared that the department, in partnership with various employers in the region successfully hired on the spot some 660 jobseekers during the event that took place at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba City on May 1.

Aside from bringing job opportunities closer to communities, the event also highlighted the ceremonial launch and awarding of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Tuloy Pasada program, in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

According to DOLE Calabarzon, a total of 845 transport workers across the region will benefit from emergency employment assistance under the TUPAD Tuloy Pasada program, which provides immediate support to the sector most affected by the Middle East conflict.

“Under this initiative, 845 transport workers will benefit from emergency employment assistance amounting to ₱10,723,050.00 for a 20-day work period,” DOLE shared in an official post.

The agriculture sector is among those who were most affected and vulnerable to the crisis, and to complement the program, a ceremonial awarding of TUPAD under the Integrated Services for Livelihood Advancement and Sustainable Employment will also be implemented in convergence with partner agencies for the benefit of the agriculture and fisheries sector.

This move will benefit 1,400 farmers and fisherfolks in the region, they are set to be engaged in canal rehabilitation for 20 days, with a total allocation of Php18,298,000.00.

In Tiaong, Quezon, NIA Calabarzon conducted a TUPAD orientation for 100 farmers from Irrigators’ Associations, who are set to benefit from DOLE’s TUPAD program.

“Matapos ang orientation noong April 28, opisyal namang sinimulan noong May 1 ang 20-day clearing activity sa mga irrigation canals, kung saan aktibong nakibahagi ang mga miyembro ng samahan. Ang gawaing ito ay naglalayong alisin ang mga bara at dumi sa mga kanal upang mapanatili ang maayos na suplay ng tubig patungo sa mga sakahan,” NIA shared in a Facebook post.

These initiatives, carried out in coordination with other government agencies, ensure that no sector is left behind, especially amid crises that threaten food production and the steady supply of food to Filipino households. (COP/PIA CALABARZON)
