CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Calabarzon has urged qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the region to avail of their scholarship program.
Avilina Sheryl Briton-Caya, OWWA 4A Programs for Education Coordinator, told the Philippine Information Agency that they are now accepting applications for the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) for the Academic Year 2023-2024.
“Wag na magpa-tumpik-tumpik pa, mag-apply na, kumpletuhin ang hinihingint, yun lang ang ipasa para maging eligible for scholarship and the rest of the requirements will be coordinated personally para ma-validate namin ‘yung eligibility ng bata,” Caya said.
Caya added that the OWWA 4A opened 60 slots for incoming college students and another 65 slots for currently enrolled college students. She said the ODSP offers Php20,000.00 in educational assistance to qualified dependents of OFWs who receive a monthly salary of not more than US$600.00.
According to Caya, applicants must be an immediate OFW family member who shall enroll or currently enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course in any college or university to qualify for the scholarship program.
“Unang-una dapat ang OFW ay active OWWA member, kasi merong mga OFW na nasa ibang bansa pa pero expired na yung OWWA membership nila, hindi sila makaka-avail ng OWWA Scholarship. Pangalawa, single at dito mag-aaral sa Pilipinas yung mag-aaral tapos kapag yung incoming first year ay dapat 21 years old pero yung already in college ay hanggang 30 years old,” she explained.
Meanwhile, the OWWA 4A also bared the list of 67 qualifiers for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP).
Caya said the OWWA 4A maintained around 500 EDSP scholars who receive Php60,000.00 annually and 400 ODPS scholars who receive P20,000.00.
The deadline for the submission of requirements for the ODSP is on July 31, 2023.
Caya advised interested applicants to visit the OWWA 4A office and regularly monitor their official social media pages for further announcements.
“Mag-monitor at mag-like nang aming facebook page, (OWWA Calamba) kasi doon kami nagre-release ng mga link na pagpapasahan for online application, kasi ngayon ay online na halos lahat. Maraming mga may problema, hindi makapasok sa link, may mga concerns sa requirements pero we will be assisting po. Nakalagay po sa aming post yung numbers na pwedeng tawagan, ang email na pwedeng makapag-send ng concern,” she said.
