In recognition of the significant contributions and the many sacrifices of Caviteño migrant workers as they strive overseas to provide for their families, the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer and the Cavite Overseas Filipino Welfare Council spearheaded the Provincial Migrant’s Day Celebration at the Provincial Gymnasium in Trece Martires City on June 17, 2023.

Ms. Felipa Servañez, head of OPSWDO, welcomed the migrants and loved ones in the program and shared a profound reflection on the social impacts of migration vis-à-vis the economic gains. Ms. Beverly Alvaran and Ms. Marife Bautista, who both represented Board Member Romel Enriquez, also extended their support.

During the program, Ms. Riza Ramirez-Flores, Direct Service Manager of Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute, introduced their organization and vision for Overseas Filipino Workers and their families. She, then, discussed the legal processes in applying for overseas work, and shared situations and actions to avoid falling victim of scam recruitment and trafficking. She also presented the assistance they offer to returning or repatriated Overseas Filipinos who experienced challenges abroad.

Meanwhile, Ms. Kathleen Margaret Espinol, shared her success story as an OFW-turned-entrepreneur during the pandemic, giving hope and inspiration to others to strive harder for their goals and aim for the brighter side of life.

In conclusion, Ms. Precyl T. Ramos, Social Welfare Officer IV, emphasized the importance of having a focal person in each community in the province, to look into the issues and concerns of migrants and seek for apt solution.

Participants were treated with pampering services from TESDA while products and other services were offered in various booths of PGC offices, national agencies and non-government organizations. Raffle of prizes and jamming session from Best of Seven Band also added to the excitement and entertainment of the attendees. (OPIO)
