The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian headed by Dr. May M. Magno facilitated the Barangay Biosecurity Officers’ Conference on June 1, 2023 in Magallanes, Cavite. The conference provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, fostering a greater understanding of animal swine fever (ASF) and equipping participants with the necessary tools and strategies to protect their local communities.
Dr. Ed Alfred Zamora of the Bureau of Animal Industry-ASF Taskforce, provided the attendees with the up-to-date information on the current status of ASF in the country. Additionally, he imparted knowledge about the nature of the virus, its potential dangers, and outlined various biosecurity measures to effectively curb its further spread.
Magallanes Mayor Jasmin Angelli M. Bautista, graced the conference, highlighting the significance of the issue at hand. Likewise, representatives from the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office IVA, Agricultural Training Institute -CALABARZON, Agricultural Program Coordinating Office, Cavite Swine and Poultry Producers Inc., and City/Municipal Agriculture Office also attended the event, underscoring the collaborative effort in combating ASF.
By actively engaging various stakeholders and pooling their expertise, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, successfully organized a significant event that emphasized the importance of proactive measures in preventing and controlling ASF. Through initiatives like this conference, it is hoped that the province of Cavite will be better equipped to safeguard its swine industry and mitigate the potential economic and agricultural impacts of ASF.
