MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) logged 123,291 cases of dengue nationwide from Jan. 1 to June 7 but said the situation is “manageable” so far.
In a news release on Friday, the DOH said an increase in the number of cases was observed among ages five to nine years, which reached 27,358.
“May nakikitang kaunting pagtaas sa kaso ng dengue nitong mga nakaraang linggo na kinokonsiderang manageable lalo na kung paiigtingin ang (Slight increase in dengue cases was seen in the past and it is considered manageable especially with strengthened) vector control,” the DOH said.
For the period April 27 to May 10, DOH data showed 6,192 dengue cases.
Meanwhile, a total of 6,270 cases were recorded from May 11 to May 24, reflecting a six-percent increase.
The DOH said the fatality rate as of June 7 remained low at 0.4 percent, or four deaths out of 1,000 dengue patients nationwide.
In addition to vector control, the DOH strengthens it dengue awareness campaign together with the Department of Education following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to protect children in public schools. (PNA)
