MANILA – Over 5,000 vacancies are available at the Labor Service Cooperative Job Fair slated on Oct. 16 in Quezon City, an official of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) reported on Monday.
CDA National Capital Region (NCR) regional director Pedro Defensor Jr. said a total of 5,093 employment opportunities will be up for grabs at the one-day event to be held at SM City North EDSA Skydome.
“There are varied positions we are looking at, from professional to skilled positions, like civil engineers, chemical engineers, executive secretary and other positions that are indispensable for those at the bottom of our society,” he said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public forum.
Defensor said the labor service cooperatives that will be participating are mostly from the NCR, with other groups coming from Regions IV-A (Calabarzon) and III (Central Luzon).
He added the venue is free based on the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and SM.
Asked on what is the difference between labor service cooperatives and corporations and manpower agencies, Defensor said corporations and manpower agencies are normally owned by a few people, “those who can afford, those who have money.”
“While the labor service cooperatives are owned by those we deploy to the companies where they work. The peculiarity is that when you are given a job, you are not only given a job; you are also given the opportunity to become the owner of the entity that deployed you to have a job,” he added. (PNA)
